Every single time I think I've seen the worst officiating, I get surprised by how bad refereeing and TMO's have become. I heard about this disallowed try incident, but didn't watch the game until now. Boy was I shocked when I saw this one. At first I thought it was a joke. When they started to change the initial the spotlight from double movement to the cleanout of Allan Alaalatoa, that's when I saw one of the worst officiating calls in some time. How on earth can you watch this and say this was a penalty? Then go on further and give him a Yellow card for making a normal clean in the ruck. How on earth can you look at this and say that was a swinging arm? How dumb must you be to come to that conclusion? Marius Jonker should never, ever be able to TMO again. How many mistakes has he made in recent time? Almost every game he seems to find a way to screw up the most basic calls. This was a joke. The let's go to Romain Poite, All I can say is this. Thank god he retired after this game. The sport of rugby will be better with him not being a referee. Lastly I want to commend Michael Hooper for calling him out on a joke of a decision. I have new respect for Hooper, he made it known to Romain that it was an absolute joke of an decision.
During the 2012 match between the Bulls and the Brumbies, the Bulls fly half Morné Steyn clearly knocks the ball on but referee Marius Jonker bizarrely allows play to continue and the Bulls run up field through back rower CJ Stander who beats the last man (although he really ought to have passed) and scores in the corner and the try awarded. The Bulls went onto win the game by 2 points, 38-36.

What an absolute disaster we witnessed in the Stormers vs Bulls on Saturday. It was supposed to be one of the biggest games of the URC, yet it was spoiled with horrible refereeing from Marius van der Westhuizen, and even even worse performance by the TMO, Marius Jonker. It is astonishing to me, that Marius Jonker still has a job as TMO. In the history of our sport, there has never been a worse guy at his job, than Marius Jonker. He is always in the middle of controversy with his bad decisions and mistakes, yet he seems to always pass his World Rugby refereeing "reviews". I don't know how World Rugby expects us to believe the review the performance of officials, when guys like Marius Jonker keeps getting to officiate big games. Then we have Marius van der Westhuizen, who is simply not competent enough to be a professional referee. I've watched a lot of games where he is the ref, where both teams complain afterwards of how bad he was. This game was the same, he simply is not cut out for the job. He is inconsistent, and does a terrible job at managing the game. It's also impossible for captains to speak to him, because he never listens to reason and will penalize a team if he gets questioned. Saying all that, I have no idea how the URC thought, that putting Marius Jonker, and Marius van der Westhuizen together, in the biggest game of the URC (From a South African perspective), and expect it to be a good officiated game. This was the worst possible matchup you could possibly make, and the URC thought it was a good idea. Where to start? how about the ref missing the clearest of clear knock ons you will ever see in rugby, by the stormers. And just ignoring it, which directly leads to the incident where the Bulls got a yellow card when David Kriel makes a legal attempt to intercept the ball where he had realistic chance to get the ball, but barely misses it. Then the ref decides to penalize him and give him a yellow card. It was a horrible call. Then we have the TMO who has every chance to save the day, but then you remember it's Marius Jonker. Who then never helps the ref, he also never refers to the knock on which led to everything. He just sits in his TMO box, and does nothing. So a horrible mistake by the ref, leads to yellow card to Bulls, then rugby has "systems" in place for the TMO to help, but even then, they screw it up. Then there is the Stormers try that Marcel Theunissen scored, which should never have been because it came from 2 mistakes by the ref. The first being the kickoff that led to that scrum. Where Elrigh Louw gets tackled, and Senatla then illegally punches the ball backwards, which leads to Deon Fourie kicking the ball backwards from an offside position, the ref missed both incidents. He then awards the scrum to Stormers. The first scrum is shocking, Mornay Smith, absolutely destroys Brok Harris, who angles in from the start. The ref decides to restart the scrum instead of penalizing the Stormers. Then the next scrum, Herschel Jantjies makes a forward pass, which the ref misses. This leads to the next pass by Jantjies, that was close to forward (but legal in my opinion), which was the try. The ref goes to the TMO, and they look at the Jantjies pass one time, and deem that to be forward, which it's clearly motioning forward the whole time. This all would've been prevented had the ref not made the 3 mistakes leading up to that try. You can watch the video for the rest, it was just another horrible outing by the officials, and you can bet that the URC and World Rugby will do nothing, they'll just tell fans that the games gets reviewed, yet you'll see the ref and TMO next week officiating another big game, because there is no accountability.

Nothing makes sense anymore. I don't know what I can add to even try to explain the incompetence shown in this game. The Hurricanes vs Blues was such a close game in the Super Rugby match. Yet, the ref and TMO had to play their parts in ruining an evenly matched game. The TMO in particular, was one of the worst I've ever seen. I would even go as far as to say that Marius Jonker is way ahead of Shane McDermott. I'm simply astonished as to how bad he was. That guy should be nowhere near a TMO booth, he has no idea what the heck he is doing. He put Nic Berry in so many bad spots, and never helped him. But still, that is not an excuse Nic Berry, who was also bad. He saw the same angles, and simply never questioned the TMO. So I can't excuse him for that. Not to mention some of the bad explanations he gave regarding some of the incidents. As we saw with the British and Irish Lions series in South Africa. Nic Berry is not cut out for the job. He again, proved that. How many chances do these okes get?

This was probably the worst 6 Nations in it's entire history, with regards to officiating. The amount of inconsistency that we witnessed during this competition was scary. This is a sign of things to come for the Rugby World Cup later this year in france. World Rugby is busy killing our game by it's stupid laws, and it's lack of accountability with regards to refs. The same referees, are making the same mistakes over and over again, yet they still keep getting to ref in the biggest games. How many times must I point out Marius Jonker is the worst TMO in Rugby? Yet, he still gets to TMO at the biggest level of rugby. I can go on and on about horrible refereeing and TMO performances, yet nothing gets done by World Rugby. We hear them do all this talk referees having their games reviewed in their "Official Channels", yet every weekend, we see the same guys taking over the big games. What's the point of a review, if you're not willing to actually punish someone for not performing? I honestly think it's a complete lie that gets told by World Rugby, so that they can protect the refs from public scrutiny. In this videos I point out so many inconsistencies, where one game something gets blown a certain way, then the next game that same law is completely different or doesn't apply. What is the point of having laws, when it gets applied differently every single game? I mean the Freddie Steward red card against Ireland was the final straw for me, it shows how absurd rugby has gotten, when a player tries to avoid a hit, , but has no time to fully avoid it, braces for the hit in a way to lessen the impact on the other play. That then results in him getting a red card. It's a joke. Then we have the Gael Fickou Tackle against Wales, where he lifts Alyn Wyn Jones, drives him into the ground. It's a bad tackle, but nothing dangerous. Nic Berry, of all refs, gets it right and uses commons sense to say it wasn't dangerous, so he only gives a penalty. Then we get the game directly after that one, where England played Ireland. Jack Willis goes in to make contact with an Ireland player. He lifts him, and puts him on the ground. It was nowhere near as "dangerous" as the Fickou one. Jaco Peyper then reviews it, then Marius Jonker gets involved, by that time you already know it's going to be a stupid decision. They end up deciding that it was a yellow card to Jack Willis. SO we have to exactly the same type of tackles, yet it gets penalized differently. Surely that should tell World Rugby there is a big problem? Then we also had Wayne Barnes who was not good this year, I'll let the video show his mistake Then we have the forearm incident in the Wales vs Italy game. Italian Wing Bruno runs into Wales 1, he puts his arm out. Makes contact with his chest, then to his neck. Wales 1 drops and falls. They go and review it, then they watch the replays. Initially the ref agrees it's low degree of danger, as it hit chest first, then the neck. The TMO then tries to force him to give a red card, by showing him the worst angle, and ignoring the angle where you can see it made contact with the chest first. Then the ref almost gives a red card. Luckily the AR stops it and uses common sense to save the situation. Then we have in that same game, the aerial challenges. I can't even explain it, you have to check it. You have Two challenges where one is significantly worse than the other. Yet, the one that was worst, doesn't even get penalized, and the one that was soft, gets penalized. Again, there simply is no consistency, if this continues, Then It's The Death Of Rugby.
After his grubber kick against Ireland was blocked by Conor Murray, England lock George Kruis goes to the well once again during a break against Wales... England: 15 Elliot Daly, 14 Anthony Watson, 13 Manu Tuilagi, 12 Owen Farrell (c), 11 Jonny May, 10 George Ford, 9 Ben Youngs, 1 Joe Marler, 2 Jamie George, 3 Kyle Sinckler, 4 Maro Itoje, 5 George Kruis, 6 Courtney Lawes, 7 Mark Wilson, 8 Tom Curry Replacements: 16 Luke Cowan-Dickie, 17 Ellis Genge, 18 Will Stuart, 19 Joe Launchbury, 20 Charlie Ewels, 21 Ben Earl, 22 Willi Heinz, 23 Henry Slade Wales: 15 Leigh Halfpenny, 14 George North, 13 Nick Tompkins, 12 Hadleigh Parkes, 11 Liam Williams, 10 Dan Biggar, 9 Tomos Williams, 1 Rob Evans, 2 Ken Owens, 3 Dillon Lewis, 4 Jake Ball, 5 Alun Wyn Jones (c), 6 Ross Moriarty, 7 Justin Tipuric, 8 Josh Navidi Replacements: 16 Ryan Elias, 17 Rhys Carre,18 Leon Brown, 19 Aaron Shingler, 20 Taulupe Faletau, 21 Rhys Webb, 22 Jarrod Evans, 23 Johnny McNicholl Date: Saturday, March 7 Venue: Twickenham Kick-off: 16:45 GMT Referee: Ben O’Keeffe (New Zealand) Assistant 1: Romain Poite (France) Assistant 2: Alexandre Ruiz (France) TMO: Marius Jonker (South Africa)
Another game ruined thanks to atrocious officiating. This is just getting ridiculous. Rugby is turning into a joke of a sport because of how bad world rugby is with regards to its officiating. How many games must be ruined due to the incompetence of World Rugby before things changes? Seriously, when will it be enough? I honestly feel like Agustín Pichot is the only person that can save world rugby but it will probably never happen thanks to it being so corrupt at the top. In this game, we have an incident where Charlie Ewels goes in for a tackle. He makes a good hit, that is below the shoulder height and perfectly legal, whether it was high or not, it doesn't matter as it was below shoulder height. The only problem was, as he goes to wrap his arms, he clashes head with the Ireland player. There was no intent or even force in it. It was an unfortunate head clash that happens in the game of rugby. Nobody even reacted to it because they probably thought what most of us did, there was nothing in the hit. Then before they go to review it, another similar hit happens on Maro Itoje, where Sexton tackles him upright. The facts in this case is even worse if we're being honest. With Sexton, he uses no arms and is tackling upright. He makes contact with Itoje's neck area and uses force as he went in for the tackle. In this case you could also clearly see there was more intent as he was going to make a big hit. Yet they simply ignore this, and rightfully so because if you look at it, then you'll see it was a normal rugby hit. But what I'm trying to point out is this, if we start penalizing every single contact to the head, then we won't have a game. These types of hits happen every single game, you will never be able to remove it from the game. Also, how is an accidental head clash worse than the hit Sexton made? both very fine with me, but if you ask me what was worse, then the Sexton one was if we look at facts. Yet it goes unnoticed because it was a rugby hit. World Rugby needs open they're eyes. They're busy ruining the sport we love. There is simply no punishment for horrible refereeing or TMO'ing. I mean, how does Marius Jonker keep getting high profile games to TMO? Every single time that he is in the TMO booth, there is controversy. I would love to see how he passes he reviews by World Rugby. I've long been telling people that the "Review" stuff that World Rugby keeps telling us about, is made up. There's no way guys like Marius Jonker keeps getting high profile games if there was a legitimate system in place.
This video was requested by a lot of my fans where they told me about the horrendous officiating in the Wales vs Australia game where the officiating mistakes had a big impact on the game. Dave Rennie also went after the officials after the game when he called the decision making as "horrendous" and boy was he right... How this happened in an international game boggles my mind. These guys are paid professionals and they keep on having a negative impact on the game of rugby. How many times does this need to happen for World Rugby to do something? How many careers should these officials impact before they have to take accountability? Dave Rennie had every right to be furious after that game. There were so many inconsistent interpretations of the ref. Especially with dangerous plays and deliberate knockdowns. There was a clear difference in how he handled it for both teams. It was absolutely disgraceful. Then there is Marius Jonker, every single big game he is involved in, he is surrounded by controversy. So please explain to me how he's still able to TMO big games with no accountability. He always wants to be involved in a game and then he messes up the basic calls. In this case he simply calls out questionable dangerous plays by Australia, but then goes on to ignore other incidents that were just as dangerous as the red card incident. That should never happen. Mike Adamson and his officiating crew, except the one AR from Georgia (Who was actually good). Should be held responsible for this performance. Will they apologize to Dave Rennie and Australia? Will this game get reviewed? and Will they face consequences for this horrific performance? Judging by how World Rugby deals with bad officiating, I doubt anything is going to happen. But you can be sure they'll fine Dave Rennie for speaking out, that's how they work.

I have no idea how Andrew Brace keeps getting to referee at the top level of the game. How many controversies does he have to be in for World Rugby to realize he is not a very good ref? He's quickly becoming the Marius Jonker of refereeing where after every game he officiates, there seems to be controversy. I can't believe how he missed these to glaring penalties, that had a direct impact in the scores of the game. The first one was the most obvious one, Damian Willemse was miles offside before the ball was out at the scrum. This should've been a clear penalty, yet Andrew Brace missed it completely. To make things worse, then Evan Roos gets the ball. He hits his one knee, which means he has one chance to reach and score or to place. The moment he moves onto his other knee, he has to place the ball and can't propel himself forward because that is double movement. Yet, he does exactly that. He hits his knee, moves onto his other knee and then propels himself forward to score a try. The TMO and Andrew Brace are equally guilty for awarding this try, they checked it and for some reason these "professional referees" came to the conclusion it was legal. But regardless of the missed double movement. How did he not penalize the Stormers for being offside at scrum time? How did he miss that? The URC is the league with the absolute worst officials in the game, which is probably due to the fact that a majority of them are Northern Hemisphere and they have a track record of being the worst in rugby.
I have no idea how Northern Hemisphere officiating can be this bad. Combine a NH ref with Marius Jonker, and you'll get decisions like this one. How on earth was this even a penalty? Rob Valentini makes a perfectly legal tackle, but clashes his head with the ball carrier in something that was clearly accidental. I have no problem if you argue it was bad technique, but it doesn't make it an illegal tackle. His head positioning was poor, but you could argue the same about the ball carrier who was running very upright and asking to be hit. But Mike Adamson believed otherwise, he saw that and really believed that was a Red Card. I don't know how you can come to that conclusion. The tackle itself was perfectly legal shoulder on shoulder hit, but then their heads collide and that was deemed a penalty? Not just penalty but a red car??? In what universe is that anywhere close to a red card? These Norther Hemisphere "refs" are the absolute worst of the profession. And Marius Jonker is also clearly the worst TMO in the history of Rugby. Every single week he is in the middle of controversy of making horrible calls. Yet he keeps on getting a call to TMO big games. Yet, World Rugby tells us they review the games. Yeah right...
Take a bow Scott Green, that is how you handle foul play in rugby. This is the first time in a long time that I've seen a ref and TMO deal with a head clash by using common sense and logic when they discuss it. This incident was far more serious than the Charlie Ewels one in the England vs Ireland game from the weekend, yet the ref kept his cool and handled it with common sense. It was clear that Scott Green takes intent and malice into account when dealing with foul play. He uses context before making a decision that could alter the game. If this was any ref from the URC or Six Nations then you would see the Seattle player getting a red card and season long suspension. I say this as an Houston SaberCats fan where our player was on the receiving end of a head-to-head clash. It was an accident that happened when 3 players went for the ball. The Seattle player did not go out to hurt our player. He went after the ball and in the process an accident happened where their heads clashed. There was no bad intent from the Seattle player, it was a freak accident. Was it serious? yes of course it was, it resulted in 2 players going of the field. Was it foul play? No it was not! Players from both teams went after the ball, there was nothing that indicates that it was foul play. These types of stuff happen in a rugby game. That is why it's important to use context when looking at these incidents. An Accidental head clash is not the same as a player shoulder charging a guy in the head, or punching a guy in the face. The one is a rugby collision and the other is foul play. World Rugby is destroying the game by ignoring context in these circumstances. It's getting ridiculous. If this was any ref from the URC or 6 Nations, the game would've been ruined with a red card. If this was Marius Jonker or any TMO from the URC and 6 nations, then this game would've been ruined. But thanks to World Class refereeing by Scott Green, we had a fair and fantastic game of 15 vs 15. This is how cases like this should be handled.
