First tests of the DIY Ze(h)nDrive Clone stomp Box kit from uk-electronic.de. This is a great overdrive that suits the Fender Deluxe Reverb amp nicely. The kit is delivered ready to build with all parts incl. box - just solder in all the components, drill holes in the box, assemble and wire it up. The Hermida ZenDrive is touted as a very organic, natural-sounding, tube-like overdrive, the word Dumble is used to describe it. They go for over $200 on eBay these days, but there are clone kits out there for a quarter the price. Are they worth it? Depends on your soldering skills perhaps, and how much time vs. money you're willing to spend. Hermida Zendrive (store-bought, unmodified) vs. $35 clone kit purchased here: 🤍 We have no affiliation with Hermida or the other site, just posting this for informational and reference purposes. This is a demo of probably my favourite overdrive pedal out there. Our Astral Drive is based on the zendrive with a slightly lower output. I found myself never turning the volume on my zendrive past 12; so lowering the output really increases the tones you can get. As you'll see though; I was able to match the tone perfectly to my zendrive.

In this video, I demo the first pedal I've ever built - a Zendrive Clone from Tayda Electronics. I call mine the "Mindfulness Drive." I had a lot of fun building this pedal, and this is one of the first times I played through it. I am playing a 1999 Mexican Fender Strat through a Strymon Iridium straight into a PreSonus AudioBox interface. I am using OwnHammer (r)Evolution IRS and playing on the "Chime" setting (Vox AC30 top boost). IR settings are: L: AC30 Blue Alnico w/ SM57 on the sweet spot R: AC30 Blue Alnico w/ 121 on the cone, slight boost in treble and level matched. No EQing, just some slight limiting to get up to volume. For this I used Waves L2 Ultramaximizer. I did leave my Wampler Ego Compressor on the whole time, but you can see my settings there. Recording through a 70's Silverface Fender Vibro Champ and a 90's MexiStrat with Dimarzio HS-3's. There is no mastering echo. This is raw through an old Echoplex EP-3. SM-57 off axis. 8" stock speaker on VC changed to a Weber.
