Frogspawn is one of my favorite corals. While it is considered a beginner's coral, it has a special place in many reefer's tank due to it's beauty and ease of care. It is pretty much a must for any of my tank to have a Frogspawn colony in it!

Frog Spawn. Another sign of spring. I go to the waterside to seek out frog spawn and evoke memories of childhood. As youngsters, we collected front spawn in jam jars and carried it back home to the pond, watching the spawn turn to tadpoles and later into tiny, perfectly formed frogs. For old time's sake I gather some spawn in a jar, but later return to the water from where it came to develop into tadpoles. For more content: Be our friend: 🤍 🤍 🤍 Want to purchase this coral or interested in our other products? 🤍 Frogspawns and Octospawns are popular beginner LPS Corals that fall under the genus Euphyllia. They come in a wide variety of colors with vibrant, and translucent colored tips. Occasionally, these tips will even display a fascinating bicolored pattern. The difference between these corals are the vesicles at the ends of their tentacles. Frogspawns have split elongated cluster-type vesicles that resemble Frog eggs. Giving them their namesake. Meanwhile, Octospawns exhibit compact-clustered vesicles of eight at their tentacle ends. Despite these slight differences in physical appearance, the care requirements and behaviors remain identical. Both of these corals require a low-moderate amount of lighting. A common sign that your Frog or Octospawn may be receiving too much light is the deflation, retraction, or bleaching of the coral’s polyps. Place them in the bottom or mid section of your aquarium with low to moderate flow. Allow their tentacles to fully extend but not so much the tissue becomes bent over the skeleton. Allow the specimen 2 weeks to properly acclimate to your system before experimenting with different locations. Frogspawn and octospawn are “passive” feeders. While their tentacles are capable of grabbing various types of food from the water column, they do not typically go out of their way to do so. Even though target feeding is not required, you can offer them a variety of foods such as PE Mysis and Calanus, Benepets and Fauna Marin LPS Pellets, once every two weeks. Frog and Octospawn corals are a great choice for beginner LPS keepers. They are more forgiving to parameter fluctuations and other environmental changes than their other Euphyllia counterparts while still bringing beautiful movement and color to your reef. Fragging The Golden Frammer euphyllia. This is a cross between morphology of the hammer E. ancora and E. divisa . It has been growing for just under a year and started as a single head. I almost lost the coral at 2 polyps when it was stung by another coral. I am very happy it survived and thrived to make this colony.

Common names: Frogspawn, octospawn, octopus coral, grape coral, honey coral Difficulty Level: Frogspawn is generally tolerant, but must have stable alkalinity to survive. Feeding: Poor feeding response, so must usually be fed with pumps off. Most common foods are small suspension matter including phyto and roti. Lighting (Level 5 to 7): Most prefer moderate lighting, but will adapt to varying conditions. Water flow: Medium to lower flow to prevent fleshy polyps from being damaged on rock or skeleton. Placement: Frogspawn can be aggressive towards other corals although they generally do well in close proximity to other euphyllia corals with the exception of torch corals. General: These corals all come in either a wall form or branching form. The branching types may be easily fragged by breaking heads off at the base of the branch.
